How to Choose a Lacrosse Net Thickness
Besides making sure you get the right size (field goal vs. box goal), the most important thing to consider when you are choosing a replacement lacrosse net is the thickness.
The thickness of the netting is the leading indicator of how strong and durable it is. Though the thickness required will vary based on how strong you shoot, here are some general guidelines for what you should look for based on your level of play:
- Youth: 2.5 mm+
- U14: 3 mm+
- High School: 5 mm+
- College & Professional: 6 mm+
When in doubt, you should go with the thicker net, especially if you plan on regularly shooting throughout the year.
It’s worth spending a bit more money upfront so it's less likely that you'll have to replace your lacrosse net again. And the difference in cost between net sizes is really not much.
