Looking to upgrade your gym bag with wrist wraps but feeling overwhelmed by the sea of options? Fear not! We've got your back (and your wrists).

These aren't just accessories. They're your allies in crushing PRs and staying injury-free. We're breaking down the nitty-gritty details on the top contenders, plus the wrist guard we trust when the pads go on.

Coach's note: Every good program I've been around, from the box barns in Ontario to the high school weight rooms in upstate New York and Virginia Beach, builds its shooters in the offseason. Strong, healthy wrists mean a harder shot and quicker hands on the faceoff X. Wrap up for your heavy lifts, and cover that gap between your gloves and pads when you play.

Heads up: BattleLax doesn't sell gym wrist wraps, but it does carry the Warrior Lacrosse Wrist Guards, plus arm and elbow pads and the Power Shaft trainer. Under each pick, I point you to the closest option. See the full list below.

Proper wrist wrapping technique

First, we have to point out that proper wrist-wrapping technique is often overlooked.

Since the goal of a wrap is to support the wrist, we recommend placing it over the most stressed part of the wrist. The product photos even show where the wraps should sit.

That means lining up the center of the wrap with the center of your wrist joint. Start at the base of the wrist and wrap upward toward your fingers. The top of the wrap should end at the base of your thumb.

Common mistakes include wrapping only the forearm or not pulling the wraps tight enough. For my max lifts, I wrap my wrists as tight as I can, go right into the lift, then take the wraps off quickly so I'm not cutting off circulation for long.

Top wrist wraps for lacrosse players

1. Rogue Wrist Wraps Best overall

Class-leading durability, three lengths and a price that's hard to beat.

Rogue Wrist Wraps

Best for Heavy lifts Type Gym wrist wrap Drip 9.5/10

Key features:

  • Durable cotton, elastic and polyester blend
  • Three lengths: 12", 18" and 24"
  • Hook-and-loop closure with a thumb loop for easy adjustments
  • Lots of colors, including a sharp red and black
  • Machine washable

The Rogue Wrist Wraps come in plenty of colors, but we love the red and black. Out of every option, the Rogue stood out as number 1.

Rogue makes the wraps from a cotton, elastic and polyester blend that you can toss in the wash. They soak up sweat and won't irritate your skin. With class-leading durability at an affordable price, we can't recommend them enough.

Whether you're pressing, pulling or doing any movement that loads up your wrists, these wraps give you the support to help prevent injury and push your numbers. The three lengths cover just about every preference, so they work for lacrosse players and lifters alike. I don't hit the gym without them.

Pros

  • Excellent wrist support and stability
  • Adjustable tightness
  • Durable material holds up to hard workouts
  • Machine washable

Cons

  • Some lifters may find the 24" bulky
  • Longer lengths take time to put on and take off between sets

Who it's for: Players who lift heavy in the offseason and want one wrap that does it all.

BattleLax pick: BattleLax doesn't sell gym wrist wraps like the Rogue Wrist Wraps. For wrist protection on the field, grab the Warrior Lacrosse Wrist Guards ($14.99), and for building wrist and forearm strength with a stick in your hands, try the Power Shaft Lacrosse Trainer ($64.95).

2. Warrior Lacrosse Protective Wrist Guards Best for the field

Ultralight padded guards that cover the gap between your gloves and elbow pads.

Warrior Lacrosse Protective Wrist Guards

Best for On-field protection Type On-field wrist guard Drip 9.5/10

Key features:

  • Adjustable stretch material for a snug fit
  • Padding on both sides of the wrist
  • BattleLax lists Small and Medium sizes
  • Easy to wash
  • Clean stitch design

Warrior's Lacrosse Protective Wrist Guards are ultralight and comfortable. I paired them with low-profile gloves, and they filled the gap between my gloves and elbow pads perfectly. Every attackman who's eaten a slash on that bare strip of wrist knows exactly why that matters.

The two thick pads give you the right amount of protection without feeling bulky. They helped when defenders were throwing checks and slashes at my hands. The sides have no padding, but the pads on top and bottom give you good coverage.

The break pattern and Lycra stretch material give you a flexible fit. The fit felt a little restrictive at first but loosened up after a few sessions. Unlike other guards, they don't bunch up, even with constant wrist movement.

The fabric is exceptionally durable, too. I've used mine for a year, and the moisture-wicking fabric keeps my wrists dry through long practices. The pads kept their shape, and there were no broken threads.

Overall, the Warrior Lacrosse Protective Wrist Guards are the most reliable way for attackers to protect their wrists.

Pros

  • Comfortable fit
  • Spreads impact across the wrist
  • Durable and lightweight
  • Unrestricted wrist mobility

Cons

  • Fabric loosened up over time
  • Limited colors

Who it's for: Attackmen and middies who take a lot of slashes to the hands.

4. Rip Toned Wrist Wraps Best stiffness options

Pick stiff for heavy lifts or flex for everything else.

Rip Toned Wrist Wraps

Best for Stiff or flexible support Type Gym wrist wrap Drip 8.5/10

Key features:

  • Sturdy material for maximum support
  • Adjustable fit for comfort
  • Lots of colors and designs
  • Comes in stiff and flex fit
  • Machine washable

Let's talk about the Rip Toned Wrist Wraps. Rip Toned gives you a big range of colors and two stiffness options.

If you want your wrists locked in on heavy movements, go with the stiff version. Bench press, shoulder press, squats and deadlifts all benefit from a stiffer wrap.

For a more versatile wrap, we recommend the flex fit. It's great for supporting your wrists under boxing gloves or on Olympic lifts. If you're new to wraps, a more flexible wrap is a better place to start.

Pros

  • Excellent wrist support
  • Lots of colors
  • Two stiffness options
  • Machine washable

Cons

  • Cotton material might fray with heavy use

Who it's for: New lifters who want a flexible wrap, or vets who want a stiff one.

Frequently asked questions

Do lacrosse players need wrist wraps?

Not on the field, but they help in the weight room. Wraps support your wrists on heavy pressing and lifting, which keeps them healthy for shooting and checking. On the field, padded wrist guards cover the gap between your gloves and arm pads.

How tight should wrist wraps be?

For max lifts, wrap as tight as you can, do the lift, then take them off right away so you don't cut off circulation for long. For lighter sets, snug is enough.

Where should a wrist wrap sit?

Line up the center of the wrap with the center of your wrist joint, start at the base of the wrist and wrap up toward your fingers. The top of the wrap should end at the base of your thumb.

What length wrist wrap should I get?

Shorter wraps (like 12") are quick to put on and flexible. Longer wraps (18" to 24") give more support for heavy lifts but take longer to put on and can feel bulky.

Does BattleLax sell wrist guards?

Yes. BattleLax carries the Warrior Lacrosse Wrist Guards, plus arm and elbow pads from Maverik and Warrior.
