New Balance Burn X3 Lacrosse Cleats

Key Features

Closure System Lace-up
Tongue Construction Hybrid
Collar Type Mid-cut
Traction Good
Padding Yes
Colors Black | Red | White, Black | Grey, White | Blue, White

New Balance has always been my go-to brand in the sports industry for its reliability. Their Burn X3 lacrosse cleats are no exception. Released in 2022, these unisex cleats are designed for beginner to intermediate players who prioritize performance and speed.

The comfort of these cleats was on par with any high-end option, despite their more affordable price point. I noticed an improvement in my strides without experiencing any discomfort or tightness. They were easy to break in, allowing me to run laps without any issues.

What I liked the most was the knit upper with Kinetic Stitch technology. It gave me the freedom to stretch freely while maintaining the integral support for my feet so that I do not twist and strain my feet, especially my ankles. The hybrid tongue construction and secure lace-up closure ensured stability throughout my runs.

The Burn X speed plate, a proprietary feature, improved my stability on the turf. I could feel a noticeable response from the cleats, especially when making aggressive moves like throwing checks or winning faceoffs. The TPU molded outsole and front tip delivered good traction.

For any sports shoes, padding around the heel and ankle is one of the most important features in determining their quality. The New Balance Burn X3 lacrosse cleats have Achilles pads that keep my ankle supported and comfortable along with a mid-cut collar that further supports my ankles.

I liked the value for money and performance these cleats offered. I could wear them for hours without any discomfort, although I believe the internal cushioning could be improved for even better comfort.

New Balance Freeze LX 4.0-LE Fire and Ice

Key Features

Closure System Lace-up
Tongue Construction Hybrid
Collar Type Mid-cut
Traction Good
Padding Yes
Colors Ice Blue

After the remarkable success of the Freeze LX 4.0, New Balance surprised fans with a limited Fire and Ice edition of the Freeze LX 4.0 in 2023. Being an attacker, this special edition, designed for midfielders and attackers who face intense checks and maneuvers on the field caught my attention.

I was immediately impressed by its lightweight design coupled with excellent underfoot traction. At just around 304 grams, I feared that these cleats might skid on the turf and compromise stability and quality. However, they performed the opposite. These were stable, comfortable, and skid-resistant.

I liked the synthetic mesh upper that provided ample ventilation to keep my feet dry even during the hot months of June and July.

If you are a lacrosse player who plays in warmer climates, this is surely going to help you keep your feet ventilated and cool.

The lace-up closure system and hybrid tongue contributed to the cleats' stability, while the extra padding around the ankles and cushioning in the heel area helped prevent injuries and facilitated multi-directional movements because of the superior traction.

For quick and precise movements, I liked how the forefoot film added traction, and protection, and allowed for smooth pivoting. This helped me with high-speed shots

The application of QUIX technology on the outer TPU sole, combined with 13 strategically placed studs, provided agility, responsiveness, and durability during gameplay.

If you play in warmer regions, the New Balance Freeze LX 4.0 LE could be the perfect choice for a comfortable and high-performance game on the lacrosse field.

Nike Huarache 9 Elite Low LAX

Key Features

Closure System Lace-up
Tongue Construction Hybrid No-slip
Collar Type Low-cut
Traction Good
Padding X-Heel Fit
Colors White, Black | White, Golden

The Nike Huarache 9 Elite Low LAX is one of the sleekest and most visually appealing lacrosse cleats. Launched in 2023, this updated version of the Huarache series targets elite players of any gender who prefer low-cut collar cleats.

While I typically prefer higher-cut cleats, I decided to give these a try due to the buzz and positive reviews surrounding them. Upon slipping them on, I immediately noticed their enhanced flexibility compared to other shoes.

Given their low-cut design, I expected this flexibility, but I was concerned it might come at the expense of traction. However, to my surprise, the multidirectional traction they offered was impressive.

Intrigued by their traction and low profile, I dug deeper and discovered that the Huarache 9 Elite incorporates Nike's Phantom Soccer series traction system. Without a doubt, Nike did a really good job with the traction.

Despite their sleek and compact appearance, Nike did not compromise on comfort. I liked the comfortable underfoot cushioning provided by the Nike React foam, along with the secure feel due to Nike's Internal Flywire system in the mid-foot area.

Often, cleats can lead to discomfort and burning sensations on the soles of the feet, but I did not experience this issue with the Nike Huarache 9 Elite. I liked the feel and response of the cleats while going for the aggressive strides.

The upper is made from lightweight mesh with appropriate padding around the heel, featuring the X-Fit heel system for support. Whereas the hybrid tongue is no slip. I liked this feature as many cleats I have worn tend to slip to the side, leaving my feet exposed.

Despite having just 10 studs on the sole, the strategic pattern and design of these studs provide excellent stability.

The Nike Huarache 9 Elite Low LAX combines style, performance, and comfort, making it a good choice for elite lacrosse players who like a low build.

Nike Huarache 9 Elite LAX

Key Features

Closure System Lace-up
Tongue Construction Hybrid No-slip
Collar Type Mid-cut
Traction Good
Padding X-Heel Fit
Colors White, Black | White, Golden

The Nike Huarache 9 Elite LAX series has some of the sleekest lacrosse cleats. Released in 2023, the Nike Huarache 9 Elite LAX is specifically designed for elite male players who prefer mid-cut collar cleats equipped with Nike's premium technologies.

As someone who typically uses mid-cut cleats, I decided to give these a try after hearing all the hype and positive reviews. Upon putting them on, I immediately noticed their enhanced flexibility compared to other mid-cut cleats I have tried before.

Given their mid-cut design, I was initially concerned about potential compromises in flexibility and traction. However, they offered impressive multidirectional flexibility and traction that Nike incorporated into these cleats.

Upon digging deeper, I got to know that all of the Huarache 9 Elite series utilize Nike's Phantom Soccer series traction system, which undoubtedly contributed to their exceptional traction.

Despite their compact appearance resembling soccer shoes, Nike did not sacrifice comfort. I liked the comfortable underfoot cushioning provided by the Nike React foam, along with the Internal Flywire system in the mid-foot area.

Often, compact cleats can lead to discomfort and blisters, but I did not experience any such issues with the Nike Huarache 9 Elite LAX. I found them to be comfortable and responsive, especially during aggressive strides on the field.

The lightweight mesh upper with padding around the heel, featuring the X-Fit heel system offered added support. The no-slip hybrid tongue improved the overall comfort and stability of these cleats.

I liked the slip-resistant feature of the tongue as it prevented the tongue of the cleats from slipping to the side during strides. The stretchy inner sleeve further improved the fitting.

Despite having only 10 studs (4 on the back sole and 6 on the mid-front section) on the sole, the strategic placement and sharp design of these studs provided excellent stability.

If I compare it the the Low LAX version, I think except for the low build, these are pretty identical.

I think the Nike Huarache 9 Elite LAX successfully combines style, performance, and comfort, making it an excellent choice for elite lacrosse players who prefer mid-cut cleats.

New Balance X Unltd LE Gold USA Burn X4 Lacrosse Cleats

Key Features

Closure System Lace-up
Tongue Construction Hybrid
Collar Type Low-cut
Traction Good
Padding yes
Colors White and Gold

The New Balance X Unltd LE Gold USA Burn X4 is an exclusive and upgraded version of the Burn X4 cleats. Released in 2024, this limited edition is made for unisex players who prefer low-cut cleats that deliver solid performance with a unique design.

In the lacrosse industry, Nike has long been known for producing top-class low-cut cleats. However, with the Burn X4 series, New Balance has made strides to compete with them, and I must say they have come quite close to matching Nike's standards, achieving about 90% of their level.

One notable improvement in the New Balance X Unltd LE Gold USA Burn X4 is its lightweight and durable construction. I definitely noticed the lightweight nature of these cleats. Their aggressive design gives them a sturdy feel, enhancing their durability.

Low-cut cleats often compromise on extra padding and ankle support, but I liked how New Balance incorporated ankle-locked padding to ensure that these cleats are as comfortable and flexible as mid-cut options.

The company claims that the gold chrome outsole is inspired by the Shock Diamond Phenomenon, although I am not entirely sure what that represents. Nevertheless, the aerodynamic upper design reduces drag, contributing to a smooth feel during movement.

It is worth noting that these cleats have longer studs, which may not be suitable for wide-footed players. Despite the lace-up system and hybrid tongue providing stability, I found the insole comfort to be average.

Due to their narrow design, I felt these cleats to be tight and tough even after multiple uses. It was a challenge to break them in fully. This lack of comfort and the sensation of my feet being squeezed detracted from the overall experience, leading to an average rating.

If you have standard or narrow feet, the New Balance X Unltd LE Gold USA Burn X4 could be a suitable option. However, for those with wider feet, I would recommend exploring alternatives like the Nike Huarache 9 Elite Low LAX for a more comfortable fit.

Nike Adult Alpha Huarache 8 Elite Lacrosse Cleats

Key Features

Closure System Lace-up
Tongue Construction Hybrid
Collar Type Mid-cut
Traction Good
Padding X-Heel Fit
Colors Black | Shades of White

The Nike Adult Alpha Huarache 8 Elite remains a solid choice despite newer versions in the Alpha Huarache series. Launched in 2022, these cleats are ideal for both unisex lacrosse and football players. Their sleek design, compact look, and low price make them a relevant choice to this day.

While the Elite 9 version of the Nike Huarache series offers upgrades, the Elite 8 retains its status as the real OG. Offered in multiple unique colors, I think the comfort and traction are what make it a great choice for lacrosse players.

Although I had initially tried the Elite 9, I found that the Elite 8's performance and technologies were equally impressive. As a lacrosse player, I could not discern a significant difference between the two models.

Testing them on both turf and grass surfaces, I found that their comfort and stability remained consistent. The inclusion of the proprietary Nike React midsole foam added more comfort.

Features like the hybrid no-slip tongue, lace-up closure, and mid-cut collar ensured that my feet stayed stable and flexible during aggressive movements on the field.

It also featured the X Heel fit system that kept my ankles locked in with the right amount of flexibility. The TPU molded plate with 13 studs offered excellent traction and allowed for a wide range of mobility.

I liked how the toe box feature functioned similarly to the Elite 9.  It allowed me to go for aggressive and accelerated strides.

For players looking for a mid-cut cleat that balances affordability with premium performance and feel, the Nike Adult Alpha Huarache 8 Elite is a reliable choice worth considering.
