Many nets that come with lacrosse goals break down over time and start getting holes. I learned that firsthand when I went through 3 nets in high school alone.
I would have been better off buying a thick replacement net right away, but I never had a good idea of what kind of net to get.
So you don't end up where I was years ago, I put together this guide on what type of net to look for, with some of your best options.
Coach's note: I've seen backyard nets in upstate New York shredded by March, and Virginia Beach summer heat bakes a cheap net brittle in a season. Ontario box shooters will put a ball through a thin box net in a week. Buy the thick one once and quit replacing it every spring.
How to choose a lacrosse net thickness
Beyond making sure you get the right size (field goal or box goal), the most important thing to consider in a replacement net is thickness. The thickness of the netting is the best indicator of how strong and durable it is.
The thickness you need depends on how hard you shoot, but here are some general guidelines by level:
| Level | Net thickness |
|---|---|
| Youth | 2.5 mm+ |
| U14 | 3 mm+ |
| High school | 5 mm+ |
| College and pro | 6 mm+ |
When in doubt, go with the thicker net, especially if you plan to shoot regularly year-round.
It's worth spending a little more up front so you're less likely to replace your net again. And the price difference between thicknesses really isn't much.

Best lacrosse nets and replacement nets
I spent over 10 hours researching the best nets on the market to help you find one that works for you.
All of these nets come with lacing cord to attach the net to your goal except the Aoneky 3 mm net. If you want that one, you'll need to pick up lacing cord or bungee fasteners separately.
All of these nets also fit a standard 6' x 6' field goal unless noted.

As the second-thinnest net on this list, this BSN net should work for players who haven't reached high school yet. Even though it's on the thinner side, customers say it holds up well and is easy to install.
BattleLax pick: BattleLax doesn't carry the BSN Lacrosse Net. For a heavy-duty replacement net you can order today, go with the Union Sports 7mm Lacrosse Net (From $129.99). At 7 mm, it's thick enough for any level.
