Lacrosse players look for a lot in their gear: strength, durability, a sharp design, good grip and more. But one of the most important things to consider is weight.

A lighter stick helps you run faster, cut quicker and get your shot off before the slide gets there. Every attackman who's ever gone from a heavy beginner stick to a light twig knows the feeling. Your hands just move faster.

To help you find the lightest heads and shafts, I dug up the weights of as many products as I could find. Below you'll find the lightest heads and shafts for each position, and I'll keep this page updated as brands release new gear.

Heads up: I couldn't find a weight for every head and shaft on the market, so there are probably other options that would make these lists if the weights were published. Weights come from manufacturer sites, retailer listings and our own reviews, and can vary slightly by color and production run.

    Lightest lacrosse heads

Here are the lightest heads available today. To find their weights, I used manufacturer sites, online retailer listings and ECD Lacrosse's head review videos, which I highly recommend if you want to learn more about a specific head.

Everything in the table is among the lightest I could find, except the last two. I added those to make sure there's at least one defensive head and one goalie head on the list.

    Lightest attack lacrosse shafts

Here are the lightest attack-length (30") shafts I could find. I mainly used manufacturer sites and retailer listings for the weights. As I mentioned above, I couldn't find every shaft's weight, so some that belong here may be missing.

    Lightest defense lacrosse shafts

Here are the lightest 60" defense shafts I could find, again using manufacturer sites and retailer listings. Some poles that deserve a spot may be missing if their weights weren't published.

Coach's note: Don't chase the lightest pole if you're a cover-down close defender. A couple extra ounces on a pole adds a lot of authority to your checks. Light poles shine for LSMs who run the field and push in transition. Check out our best lacrosse defense shafts guide for more.

    Lightest goalie lacrosse shafts

Here's the lightest goalie shaft I could find, using manufacturer sites and retailer listings.

*Weight depends on the version you choose, which is mainly based on age. The lighter version is designed for players 15 and under.

BattleLax doesn't carry standalone goalie shafts right now, but plenty of goalies run a 30" attack shaft. If that's you, the Maverik Mag-Ti 145 at 145 g is one of the lightest shafts you can buy. Need the whole setup? Check out the Maverik Krease complete goalie stick.

How to build the lightest stick

    1. Start with the shaft. Your shaft is the bigger chunk of your stick's weight, so a light handle like the Mag-Ti 145 or Flylite 150 makes the biggest difference.
    2. Pick a light, stiff head. A head under 5 oz that stays stiff, like the Mark 3V or Gait Torq 3, keeps your stick quick without turning to a noodle in the heat.
    3. Go easy on tape. Tape adds weight fast. A shaft with a built-in grip lets you skip most of it.
    4. Don't sacrifice too much strength. The lightest gear isn't always the toughest. If you take a lot of checks, give up an ounce for a shaft that won't dent.

    People also ask

What is the lightest lacrosse head?

Of the heads we could find weights for, the STX Surgeon 900 is the lightest at 4.4 oz (125 g). The StringKing Mark 3V and Gait Torq 3 are close behind at about 4.5 oz.

What is the lightest lacrosse shaft?

Among attack shafts with published weights, the Maverik Mag-Ti 145 comes in at 145 g (5.1 oz), and the Maverik Hyperlite and Nike Surge Elite are listed around 4.8 oz.

Is a lighter lacrosse stick better?

Usually, as long as it's still strong. A lighter stick moves faster, which helps your shot speed, dodging and quick sticks. But if a light shaft dents or a light head goes soft in the heat, it's not worth it.

What is the lightest defense lacrosse shaft?

Of the 60" poles with published weights, the Maverik A7 350 is one of the lightest at 350 g (12.3 oz), alongside the Warrior Burn XP2 Carbon Defense at 12.3 oz.
